The confrontation—led by Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Ganesh Godiyal and Leader of the Opposition Yashpal Arya—occurred right before a major rally by Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge. It has significantly altered the short-term political climate in the state.

Congress has doubled down on allegations that the state machinery is actively being used by the BJP to suppress opposition voices. They argue that the police deliberately stopped and delayed buses carrying party workers to stall their electoral momentum.
This incident follows previous clashes, such as the administration withdrawing venue permission for Rahul Gandhi’s “Chhatron Ki Goonj” programme in July. Congress is consolidating these events to present itself as victim of a dictatorial administration, seeking to garner sympathy from undecided voters.
