Mussoorie, 8 Jun: Mussoorie police took swift action and seized a vehicle after a video went viral on social media showing a young man creating a ruckus while sitting on the roof of a car on the Mall Road of the tourist town. A challan was also issued to the youth for disturbing public peace. According to reports, the viral video showed a young man sitting on the roof of a red Brezza car (registration number UK17-W-3081), causing a disturbance in a public place. Following the video’s release, locals expressed displeasure over such behaviour and questioned the police’s patrolling arrangements.
Taking cognisance of the matter, the Mussoorie police station team—acting under the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (Dehradun) and the supervision of the Circle Officer (Mussoorie)—immediately launched an investigation. The police team examined the video and identified the vehicle and its occupants. Subsequently, the vehicle was located and seized under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
The investigation identified the youth creating the ruckus on the car’s roof as Shivam, son of Sompal, a resident of Akbarpur Kalso, Bhagwanpur, Haridwar. Legal action was taken against him by issuing a challan under Section 81 of the Police Act. According to the police, the youth admitted his mistake and apologised; he was given a stern warning not to repeat such behaviour in the future.
Police officials state that they are continuously monitoring complaints and videos that go viral on social media. It was during this monitoring that the video in question came to their attention, prompting immediate action. With the onset of the tourist season in Mussoorie, a large number of tourists are arriving. Consequently, the police are keeping a close watch on those who violate law and order or traffic regulations. The police have made it clear that strict action will be taken against anyone creating a ruckus in public places, causing disturbances while intoxicated, or violating traffic rules. The Mussoorie Police have appealed to the general public and tourists to maintain decorum in public places, adhere to traffic rules, and refrain from any activities that comprise public safety or peace. The police stated that swift action against lawbreakers will continue.
