Dehradun, 1 Sep: Doon police have gone on alert mode after the Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rain. Continuous rainfall in the district and nearby hill areas has raised the water level of rivers and streams.

According to the police, their team in Rishikesh are regularly warning devotees not to bathe at the Ganga ghats due to the rising water level. Loudspeakers are also being used to alert people living close to rivers and streams to move to safer places.

In all police station areas, police teams are patrolling near rivers and drains. People living in low-lying and sensitive areas are being warned not to go near the water during rains. At several places, families living close to riverbanks are being shifted for their safety.

The police said that these steps are being taken to prevent any untoward incident during the heavy rains.
