Dehradun, 23 Dec: With the recommendations of State Election Commission and the approval by the Governor, the State Urban Development Department today issued a notification on municipal elections to be held in the state. The notifications have been issued for all the 11 Municipal Corporations, 43 Municipal Councils and 46 Nagar Panchayats in the state.
In this connection, State Election Commissioner Sushil Kumar held a press briefing at the State Election Office here today.
As per the schedule declared through the notifications issued today, nominations will begin on 27 December and conclude on 30 December. The scrutiny of the nomination papers filed by the candidates will be held on 31 December 2024 and on 1 January 2025, while 2 January 2025 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Election symbols will be allotted to the candidates on 3 January. The polling will be held on 23 January and the counting will be held on 25 January. All the results are expected to be declared on 25 January itself.
With the issue of the notification for the civic polls, the Model Code of Conduct has also come into force in all the urban areas of the state.
It may be recalled that the tenure of the boards of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) had ended in December last. After that, the ULBs had been handed over to the administrators. Since the reservations for OBCs were also incorporated in case of wards and the ULBs, the elections were further delayed. It was only last week that the provisional reservations were made public and objections invited. Today, however, the notification for the final reservations of the wards and the ULBs has been issued.
