DEHRADUN, 4 Feb: Veteran Badminton player Punita Bhushan Nagalia was among several who have qualified for the World Masters Championship in Veterans’ Badminton to be held in Poland later this year. Nagalia qualified in three categories in the age group 65 plus by reaching the finals in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles events at the just concluded 43rd veteran national championship held at Goa from 30 January to 3 February, 2019.
Nagalia, in fact, won the doubles event in partnership with Suzy John of Kerala and also the mixed doubles in partnership with Sushil Kumar Patet, also from Uttarakhand. She also reached the finals of the singles event but lost to Suzy John of Kerala. By virtue of making it to the semifinals of all the three categories in which she participated, she qualified for the World Masters Championships to be held later this year in Poland.
Apart from her, there were others too from Uttarakhand who have qualified for the World Championships. They include her mixed doubles partner Sushil Kumar Patet, Sudhir Pundir, Arvind Sharma, Abhishek Aggarwal, Dikari and Raja. They have qualified to participate in the World Masters Championship in their respective categories, where they will be representing India.
