Dehradun, 13 Jul: Doon Police have recovered some radioactive material and equipment from private persons while they were trying to trade the equipment. In this respect, the Police have arrested five accused, who hail from UP, Delhi and MP. The equipment allegedly is considered dangerous for humans and is used in a highly secured medical environment. A team from National Medical Institute has now started investigation. According to Doon Police, on enquiring about the recovered device, it was found that the devices are manufactured at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai and they are used to check leakage in medical field and large pipe lines.
The Police have shared the information regarding recovery of this material with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre through mail, on which the Radiation Emergency Response Team from Narora Atomic Power Station from Narora Bulandshahr reached the spot today, who tested the said device for about 3 to 4 hours. After the test, the team prima facie found that there was no radioactive material in the said device but some other risky chemicals were present in it, so the said device was sent to Bhabha Atomic Research Centre for testing.
Now a detailed report is being obtained from the Radiation Emergency Response Team in this regard. According to Doon Police, on 11 July, Rajpur Police Station received information through an informer that some suspicious people were seen at IRS officer Shwetaabh Suman’s flat located in Brook and Woods Society. This flat is allegedly rented out by him. The information further stated that these people had brought some radioactive material and other material with them and are trying to sell the same. The police force from Rajpur Police Station immediately reached the spot. On the spot, the police team found 5 persons present in the said house from whom a device was recovered on which was written Radiography Camera Manufactured By Board Of Radiation And Isotope Technology Government Of India Department Of Atomic Energy BARC/BRIT Vashi Complex, Sector 20 Vashi Navi Mumbai. Also, a black coloured box was found in which the above mentioned persons said that there was a radio active power article and that there was a danger of radiation on opening it. On enquiring , the suspected persons revealed their names as Sumit Pathak son of Devendra Pathak, resident of B-8 Vijaynagar Agra, currently flat no: 202 Aadhar Apartment Nagla Baghel Dayal Bagh New Agra Uttar Pradesh; Tabrez Alam son of Rizwan, resident of Riddhi Tajpur Police Station Behat District Saharanpur Uttar Pradesh; Sarwar Hussain son of Sabir Ahmed, resident of 153 Mohan Garden Uttam Nagar Police Station Ranoula New Delhi; Zaid Ali, son of Obaid Ali, resident of Badowali Masjid Police Station Jahangirabad, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh and Abhishek Jain, son of Mayank Jain and resident of B-607 Top Residency Near Mittal College Police Station Karol, Bhopal. According to the police, during interrogation, it was revealed that the arrested accused Tabrez Alam had got the above mentioned device 10 to 11 months ago from his acquaintance Rashid alias Sameer, a resident of Saharanpur. It was told that they were going to buy it. Today, it was told that Sumit Pathak, a resident of Agra, was coming to Dehradun to enquire about the sale and purchase of the said device. On the basis of interrogation of the accused, names of some other people from Delhi and Faridabad have come to light, about which information is being collected.
The SSP said that the names of some people from Delhi and Faridabad have come up in this. Information is being collected about them. At present, no danger is reported from this device.
