Dehradun, 23 Feb: The BJP has taken a sharp dig at what it described as the glorification of the meeting between Rahul Gandhi and Mohammad Deepak of Kotdwar and has termed it a calculated attempt by the Congress to pursue appeasement politics in Uttarakhand. Senior BJP MLA and State spokesperson Vinod Chamoli criticised the development and said that projecting such interactions in a celebratory manner sends a troubling message to the people of the State.

Responding to media queries here, today, Chamoli remarked that for the Congress, anyone who changes from Deepak to Mohammad Deepak appears to become worthy of reverence. He asserted that the people of Uttarakhand would never accept what he described as a “Kalnemi-like tendency” or those who encourage it. He maintained that such tendencies are not merely political gestures but carry deeper implications for the social fabric of the State.

Chamoli further asserted that elevating the meeting and presenting it prominently through media and social media campaigns reflects a deliberate political narrative. He questioned the intent behind highlighting the interaction, especially when senior Congress leaders often wait for long periods to secure an appointment with Rahul Gandhi. In that context, Chamoli said, the swift embrace and projection of Mohammad Deepak after brief discussions appears to indicate a clear attempt to send a political signal in Uttarakhand.

Describing the trend as dangerous for the demography and law and order of Devbhoomi, Chamoli claimed that the Congress high command and its local leadership are indulging in activities that could disturb the existing social equilibrium. He also referred to what he termed unnecessary comments and activism by senior Congress leaders based in Delhi in connection with the Kotdwar episode, saying it indicates a broader strategy that could adversely affect the State’s demographic balance.

Chamoli also questioned what message the Congress intended to convey by amplifying the episode. He asked whether the party wishes to suggest that anyone who undergoes a change of identity similar to that of Deepak Kashyap becoming Mohammad Deepak would automatically become worthy of respect and leadership within its fold. According to him, such political symbolism is neither accidental nor harmless but part of a larger appeasement approach.

The BJP MLA further asked in which direction the Congress seeks to take Uttarakhand. Reiterating his party’s stand, Chamoli said that if the divine character and cultural identity of the State are to be preserved, the Congress must be decisively rejected by the people. He expressed confidence that the electorate would respond accordingly in the coming period, adding that the BJP, with public support, would not allow any attempt to disturb the demographic or social harmony of the State to succeed at any cost.
