Rishikesh, 28 Jul: On the occasion of International Tiger Day, Vasundhara Sanstha organised an interactive awareness programme at DSB International Public School to educate students about tiger conservation and the importance of biodiversity. Officials from the Rajaji Tiger Reserve shared insights into the current status of tigers in Uttarakhand, ongoing conservation initiatives, and the crucial role tigers play in maintaining ecological balance.
The programme was inaugurated by Principal Shiv Sehgal, Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Ajay Lingwal of Rajaji Tiger Reserve, and Warden Chitraanjali Negi.
Addressing the students, the officials emphasised that tigers are not merely wild animals but key indicators of a healthy forest ecosystem. A forest where tigers thrive is also one where forests, water sources, biodiversity, and the entire ecological system remain protected. Therefore, conserving tigers is essential not only for preserving nature but also for safeguarding human life.
The officials explained that Uttarakhand’s Rajaji Tiger Reserve and Corbett Tiger Reserve serve as secure habitats for tigers. They highlighted that modern conservation measures, including camera traps, M-STrIPES patrolling, protection of wildlife corridors, and scientific management practices, are being effectively implemented to ensure the safety of tigers. These sustained efforts have yielded encouraging results.
During the interactive session, students asked several questions about tiger behaviour, habitat, human-wildlife conflict, and conservation strategies. The officials responded in a simple and engaging manner, encouraging students to develop a deeper understanding of wildlife conservation.
Students were also informed that protecting wildlife is not solely the responsibility of the Forest Department. The active participation of every member of society is essential to ensure the long-term success of conservation efforts.
