Rs 30 lakh scammed from Doon woman over shop deal in Haridwar

Dehradun, 26 May: A woman from Dehradun has been cheated of Rs 30 lakh in a property deal in Haridwar. The woman had paid advance money to buy a shop but later found out that it was already mortgaged to a finance company. The accused did not complete the registration even after taking the money. Police have registered a case against three people, including a husband and wife.

Preeti Joshi, a resident of Dehradun, said that she had made an agreement on 21 August 2023, to buy a shop named Libas Store located in Moti Bazaar, Haridwar. The deal was fixed for Rs 35 lakh. She paid Rs 30 lakh as advance and agreed to pay the rest during the registration.

However, when the date for registration came, the seller, Madhu Bansal, did not come to the office. Later, she came to know that the shop was already mortgaged to a finance company. The loan was taken in the names of Madhu Bansal, her husband Vijay Bansal, and another person named Gaurav Bansal.

The police have now filed a case against all three accused for cheating and investigation is currently underway.
