DEHRADUN, 12 Feb: Two-time world Boxing champion Nikhat Zareen on Wednesday shared her journey of determination and success at the Mauli Samvad Conclave during the 38th National Games at Maharana Sports College here. Hailing from Nizamabad in Telangana, Nikhat has made a name for herself on the global stage. Despite her roots in the plains, she claims to have a deep connection with the mountains and admires Uttarakhand. She also liberally lauded the successful organisation of the National Games, calling it a remarkable achievement that will inspire other small states.

From Getting punched to landing punches

Nikhat reminisced about her early struggles, sharing how she was the first girl in Nizamabad to take up Boxing. Encouraged by her athlete father, she stepped into the ring, training with boys. She recalled that she took a lot of punches in the beginning but one day, when she returned home bloodied, her mother screamed in shock. But over time, her family realised that this struggle would lead her (Nikhat) to success. Eventually, those who once punched her were punched back by her, she recalled.

Bouncing back from setback at Paris Olympics, sets eyes on Los Angeles

Nikhat, who has previously visited Mussoorie, lamented that she couldn’t fully enjoy the place due to bad weather. Visiting Dehradun for the first time, she expressed her love for the mountains. Reflecting on her disappointment at the Paris Olympics, she revealed that she found solace in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir. With renewed focus, she declared that now her eyes are set on the Los Angeles Olympics and that she has left the defeat of Paris behind her now.

Interacting with schoolchildren and young athletes, Nikhat admitted that she struggled with studies but excelled in sports. She advised the young people that if they love sports, then they should pursue it with passion, but education is equally important. Had he not completed her graduation, she wouldn’t have become a DSP in Telangana Police.

During the conclave, young boxing enthusiasts got the opportunity to learn techniques from Nikhat. They shared their training challenges, which she helped resolve. The event also featured GC Kandwal, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) of the Uttarakhand Government’s Food Safety Department, who provided valuable insights on safe food practices. Nikhat urged the children to follow these guidelines for a healthier lifestyle.

The conclave was also attended by G Rajaraman, Mimika Chaudhary, and other distinguished guests.
