HARIDWAR, 6 March: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) participated today in the national conference being organised at Dev Sanskriti University, here, on the topic, “Linguistic aspects and technical terminology of Sanskrit, the mother of Indian languages”. This program is being organized under the joint auspices of the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, Union Ministry of Education, and Dev Sanskriti University.
On this occasion, the Governor said that it is a very pleasant coincidence that this national conference on Devvani Sanskrit is being organised in the Dev Sanskriti University, located in Haridwar.
Lt General Singh said that Sanskrit language is not just self-developed but also a cultured language. Like other languages, divine speech is not only a means of expression, but it is also the key to the overall development of humanity. He said that the scientific structure of Sanskrit language makes it extremely relevant even in the present technological era. Now it is not just a matter of the relevance of Sanskrit language in the new dimensions of computer programming, but in this era of Artificial Intelligence, the research work being done in Natural Language Processing and other related technologies also establishes the importance of Devvani. Sanskrit language is of utmost importance to know the origin of human civilisation.
The Governor said it is highly commendable that the divine mantras, prayers and verses of Devvani Sanskrit are an integral part of the daily routine of Gayatri Tirtha Shantikunj, Dev Sanskriti University and more than five thousand Gayatri institutions spread across the world. He said that whether it is the sacred mantra of prayer to Mother Gayatri called “Gayatri-Mantra” or the ritual mantras used in Yagya, Deepyagya or rituals, in the true sense the revered Gurudev has connected humanity with this divine voice of Rishi culture.
He added that, to fulfil Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “development as well as heritage”, Devvani Sanskrit had to become the language of the people. He expressed confidence that through Sanskrit, the country will again connect with the Indian knowledge tradition and restore its prestige in front of the world.
Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya’s resolve to revive universities like Nalanda and Takshashila and to bring about cultural and spiritual revival of the world is highly commendable.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor of Dev Sanskriti Vishwavidyalaya, Dr Chinmay Pandya, who was presiding over the programme, said that efforts will be made to highlight the scientific importance of Sanskrit language in this workshop.
The special guest and President of the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology, Professor Girish Nath Jha said that, till now, more than 3 lakh words and more than 300 dictionaries have been published by the Commission.
Researchers and teachers from the country and abroad were present at today’s event
