Rudrapur, 19 Sep: Udham Singh Nagar SSP Manikant, who has only recently assumed charge, today suspended a Chowki In-charge for alleged misbehaviour with a youth in Rudrapur. The suspension comes after a video showing the Chowki In charge misbehaving with and roughly handling a Sikh youth went viral. Eyewitnesses claim that the SI Sandeep Pilkhwal was checking vehicles in Rudrapur, yesterday, when he stopped a Sikh youth and allegedly started misbehaving with him accusing him of triple riding.
In the video, the police officer is also seen gripping the youth by his collar and threatening him. However, the Sikh youth also put up a brave front and confronted the police official, asking him why he was being mistreated. By this time, a crowd gathered around them, and someone continued to grab the video despite the police officer asking him to switch off the mobile. Soon, more people gathered including a large number of people from the Sikh community as well as local traders and held a protest against manhandling of the youth by the Police officer. Soon the video also went viral throughout the state on the social media with a large number of people expressing their anguish against the “erring” police officer.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred last night when the Adarsh Colony Chowki In-charge SI Sandeep Pilkhwal stopped a Sikh youth and allegedly manhandled him. After the incident, the local people and the traders gathered outside the Chowki and held a protest. They gheraoed the chowki, levelling serious allegations against the Chowki In charge and also accused him of mistreating people on a routine basis.
Later, the crowd also called on SSP Manikant Mishra and demanded action against the chowki in charge. Realising that the situation was serious, the SSP, following the preliminary inquiry in this regard, ordered suspension of the Chowki In charge. A large number of local residents have been of late accusing the police officers of indecent behaviour with the citizens.
Yesterday, there was another case where the Chowki In charge and two constables from Sultanpur Patti Chowki were also suspended over indiscipline and negligence in duty. Today, Mishra has issued strict directions to the police officials of the district that indiscipline or any negligence will not be tolerated at all.
