SIT issues notices to police officers in Sukhwant Singh suicide case

Dehradun, 20 Jan: The Special Investigation Team constituted to probe the Sukhwant Singh suicide case has intensified its investigation. The SIT has issued notices to several senior police officers based on the videos of Singh that have gone viral on social media and the statements recorded from the deceased’s family members. According to the State Police Headquarters, notices have been served to the SSP, Udham Singh Nagar, three sub-inspectors and one additional sub-inspector (ASI). These officers have been directed to appear for questioning and to record their statements before the SIT.

In addition, the SIT has also taken cognisance of allegations related to land fraud involving the deceased and has also initiated steps to verify the authenticity of the transactions and the documents linked to the case. In this connection, notices have been issued to the Registrar and Tehsil offices concerned, as well as to various banks, seeking records pertaining to the land dealings in question and the related banking transactions. According to the SIT officials, the documents and financial records received from these institutions will be subjected to a detailed examination to establish the genuineness of the transactions and to ascertain whether any irregularities or fraudulent practices were involved.

Member of the SIT and Superintendent of Police, Champawat, Ajay Ganapati stated that all the records connected with the sequence of events leading to the incident have been taken into custody and are being scrutinised thoroughly. He added that the SIT’s specialised team is continuously analysing the call detail records, CCTV footage, the digital evidence and other technical inputs through advanced technical surveillance to piece together the circumstances surrounding the case. The police headquarters emphasised that the investigation is being conducted in a comprehensive and impartial manner, with all aspects being examined to ensure that the truth is brought to light.
