Roorkee, 22 Dec: Under the ongoing Operation Kalnemi, the Roorkee Police in Haridwar district have arrested six imposter babas from various locations across the Roorkee region. A notable aspect of this crackdown is the discovery of people from the Muslim community operating as fake sadhus. According to the police, Farooq, son of Atiq and a resident of Saharanpur, and Pappu, son of Razzaq and a resident of Hapur, were apprehended while masquerading as Hindu sadhus.

The other arrested imposters have been identified as Naresh, son of Manglu and a resident of Narsan, Roorkee; Telu Ram, son of Dishaodi and a resident of Toda Khatka village; Mange Ram, son of Swaraj and a resident of Muzaffarnagar; and Meherban Singh, son of Ganga Ram and a resident of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. These people were allegedly attempting to swindle the public by donning the garb of sadhus. The police have officially registered cases against all the accused.

It may be recalled that the crackdown follows the directives issued by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who ordered the commencement of ‘Operation Kalnemi’ to target imposter babas exploiting the religious sentiments of the public. Since the inception of this campaign, the police have been consistently identifying and taking legal action against such fraudulent elements. In this latest action, the Roorkee Kotwali Police successfully apprehended the six persons who were actively engaged in cheating people under the guise of religious men.

SP (Rural) Shekhar Chandra Suyal has stated that this campaign under Operation Kalnemi will continue in the future to ensure public protection.
