Dehradun, 1 Apr: A horrific road accident in Roorkee, Haridwar district, has left the entire region in a state of shock following a collision in the Manglaur Police Station. The incident occurred near the Peerpura underpass when three teenagers riding a single motorcycle were violently struck by a high-speed capsule truck headed towards Haridwar. The impact of the collision was so severe that the motorcycle was completely mangled, leading to immediate chaos at the site. This tragic accident resulted in the deaths of all three minor boys, sending a wave of mourning through their native village as distraught family members and residents struggle to come terms with the loss.
The commotion at the Peerpura village underpass began when the uncontrolled truck hit the three boys, resulting in the instantaneous deaths of two teenagers at the scene. The deceased were identified as 16-year-old Ayan and 17-year-old Mohammad Raqib, while their third companion, 16-year-old Mohammad Saqib, sustained critical injuries. Following the accident, the truck driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot to evade capture. A large crowd of local residents gathered at the site and immediately informed the police about the tragedy. Upon receiving the information, police personnel rushed to the location, sent the injured boy for medical treatment, and took custody of the bodies of the two deceased for post-mortem examination.
It was later reported that the third teenager, Mohammad Saqib also succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital. SP Rural Shekher Chandra Suyal stated that the police have seized the truck and a search is currently underway to apprehend the absconding driver. He further mentioned that the police are investigating all the aspects of the accident and formal legal action will be initiated once a written complaint is received. At present, a pall of gloom hangs over the village as the community grapples with the sudden and painful demise of the three youths.
It may also be reminded here that in Uttarakhand, speeding trucks have been involved in a large number of major accidents, particularly in Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun districts. Often many of the trucks involved in serious accidents have been associated with mining or illegal mining while many others have been driving on roads within the city where the trucks are usually only allowed to ply after 8 or 9 p.m. till early morning hours. The Police have often been witnessed looking other way when the trucks enter the cities during the No-Entry hours while the trucks involved in mining are rarely stopped.
