Dehradun, 10 May: On 8 May, the statue unveiling ceremony of freedom fighter, the late Jogaram Arya was organised in a grand and dignified manner at Government Inter College, Ganganagar, Motiya Pathar, in his native village. The event witnessed the presence of public representatives, office bearers of freedom fighter organisations, family members of freedom fighters, social workers, and a large number of local residents.
Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, addressed the gathering through video conferencing and described Jogaram Arya’s contribution to India’s freedom movement and the spread of education as highly inspirational. Former Speaker of the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly, Govind Singh Kunjwal, attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
Kunjwal, who had been a close associate of Jogaram Arya, stated that installing his statue in the same school whose foundation he had laid is a matter of great inspiration for all. He highlighted that from a very young age, Jogaram Arya actively campaigned against social evils such as caste discrimination and illiteracy, spread awareness about the freedom movement in the remote regions of Uttarakhand, and played a significant role in the upliftment of the Dalit and underprivileged communities.
The programme was presided over by social worker Ramesh Chandra Arya. On this occasion, the Special Guest was Apparao S Navale, General Secretary of the All India Freedom Fighters’ Sangram Samiti, Delhi, who made a special contribution towards the construction of the statue.
Among the specially invited guests were Avdhesh Pant, National Vice President (Uttarakhand) of the All India Shaheed and Freedom Fighters’ Mahaparishad; Gurinder Pal Singh, Vice President (Punjab) of the All India Shaheed and Freedom Fighters’ Family Welfare Mahaparishad; Ajit Pal Singh; and Nityanand Sharma, President of the All India Freedom Fighters’ Family Mahaparishad, Delhi, along with several regional representatives and dignitaries.
The speakers at the event remembered the contributions of Jogaram Arya towards nation-building, social awareness, struggle, and public welfare, and stated that his life remains a source of inspiration for society. The dignitaries urged the younger generation to draw inspiration from the ideals of freedom fighters.
The organisers also expressed special gratitude to the Principal of Government Inter College Ganganagar Motiyapathar, Charuchand Pant, for his valuable cooperation and heartfelt message that contributed to the success of the event.
The programme was conducted by social worker KR Arya.
Dr Asha Lal, daughter of the late Freedom Fighter Jogaram Arya, and President (Women Wing) of the All India Freedom Fighters’ Committee, Delhi, expressed gratitude to all guests, public representatives, social organisations, and local residents present at the ceremony. She stated that carrying forward the ideals of freedom fighters to every section of society is a collective responsibility.
Family members of Jogaram Arya present on the occasion included Madan Lal Arya, Indra Lal Arya, Deep Chandra Arya, Mukesh Kumar, Aditya Mihir, Sanjay Kumar, Kamla Arya, Vimla Arya, Shashi Arya, Vimmi Arya, Swati Solanki, Anvesha, Amisha, Manoj Arya, Urmi Raina, Kanchan, Vaibhav, Pankaj, and several others.
