Dehradun, 22 Sep: The Cyber Crime Team of Uttarakhand STF has arrested three African nationals from Punjab who were running a huge international parcel fraud racket. The accused were identified as Henry Jerry from Ghana, Nakigozi Feeza, and Elizabeth, both, from Uganda.

Police said the gang cheated people by making fake profiles on Facebook. They posed as professionals working in big companies like Royal Infirmary, Bristol and Abbott Pharmaceuticals. They became friends with people online, gained their trust, and then trapped them in fake business deals.

In one case, a resident of Dehradun was cheated of Rs 89 lakh between 14 and 29 June this year. The gang told him that he would get profits from an herbal seed export deal. They demanded money again repeatedly in the name of scanning fees, gold license, currency conversion, GST, insurance, and clearance charges. Later, they even pretended to be cyber security officers and policemen, threatening to file fake cases unless more money was paid.

Considering the seriousness of the case, under the directions of SSP STF Uttarakhand, the case was assigned to Additional SP Swapn Kishore Singh, ASP Kush Mishra, DySP Ankush Mishra, and Inspector Vikas Bhardwaj (Cyber Crime Police Station) for speedy investigation.

During the investigation, police found that the bank accounts used by them had crores of rupees in transactions in just a few months. The accused are also wanted in similar cybercrime cases in other states.

From their possession, the STF recovered 3 mobile phones, 2 laptops, one passport, an Indian e-visa, and several suspicious documents like fake customs clearance and anti-terror certificates.
