Dehradun, 5 Feb: Menstrual hygiene and health is a sensitive issue that requires comprehensive attention. Many teenage girls not only lack proper information about this natural phenomenon, but they also believe in many superstitions. As a social commitment towards adolescent girls, a one-day special workshop on menstrual hygiene and health was organised at a local ashram by the Dr KKBM Subharti Hospital, here.

In this workshop, Dr Beena Yadav, senior gynecologist of the hospital, listened to all the adolescent girls about their problems and suggested solutions. She also did a health checkup of everyone. Dr Yadav said that nowadays it has been seen that due to good growth of girls, menstruation starts at the age of ten-twelve years, that is why such camps are very important.

In this programme, community medical expert Dr Purvi Srivastava asked the adolescent girls to pay special attention to cleanliness during menstruation. She said that menstruation is a normal process in adolescent girls.

In the camp, dietitian Dr Pragya Sharma, while explaining the diet to the girls, said that a balanced diet should be taken during this period. Emphasis was laid on reducing the use of chillies and spices. She also advised to take raisins, almonds, iron rich green leafy vegetables, pulses, milk, etc.

Principal of the Ashram, Ritu Bhatt expressed her gratitude to Subharti’s team and said that in such remote areas where doctors are difficult to find, it is commendable that the Subharti team came and examined the girl students and provided treatment.
