NAINITAL, 9 May: Health Minister Subodh Uniyal on Saturday carried out a surprise inspection of the Garampani Community Health Centre (CHC) in Nainital, where he reviewed the attendance of doctors and other staff and found irregularities. One doctor was absent during duty hours, prompting the minister to order a show-cause notice and instruct officials to ensure strict disciplinary action. During the inspection, Uniyal directed that no negligence in healthcare services would be tolerated and emphasised that the availability of medical staff at designated times is essential for public trust in government institutions.
During the inspection, Uniyal also assessed the quality of medical services, facilities available to patients, and the overall arrangements at the centre. He instructed the officers that providing better and timely healthcare to the public must remain the highest priority of the department. He reiterated that the state government is committed to strengthening and making health services accountable, with regular monitoring of hospitals and health centres to prevent inconvenience to patients.
It may be recalled that earlier, yesterday, Uniyal had visited Dr Sushila Tiwari Hospital in Haldwani, where he interacted with patients and their families to gather feedback on treatment facilities, availability of medicines, and cleanliness. Based on the feedback, he had directed the hospital administration to prioritise timely treatment, patient convenience, and hygiene within the premises. He made it clear that lapses in medicine supply or sanitation would not be accepted and ordered continuous monitoring to maintain effective and smooth arrangements.
Minister Uniyal stated that the Government’s foremost priority is to provide quality, accessible, and affordable healthcare to the people of Uttarakhand. He added that the administration is working consistently to strengthen medical infrastructure and ensure accountability at every level. His recent inspections follow a series of surprise visits across the state, including Nandgaon CHC in March, where he had similarly directed officials to improve facilities and warned against negligence.
