Mussoorie, 30 Apr: The weather in Mussoorie took a sudden turn today. Heavy rainfall and severe hailstorms in the afternoon led to a sharp drop in temperature, bringing much-needed relief to residents from the heat that had prevailed over the past several days. As the cold intensified, people once again had to reach for their warm clothing.
The heavy hailstorm that swept across Mussoorie and its surrounding areas blanketed roads and rooftops in a sheet of white. Locals, too, appeared surprised by this sudden shift in weather patterns. Meanwhile, the combination of rain and chilly winds brought wintry conditions back to the entire city. The hailstorm has heightened fears of potential crop damage for farmers and cultivators in the rural areas and orchards surrounding Mussoorie. Cultivators note that several crops are currently standing ready for harvest in the fields, and the heavy hailstorm poses a significant threat to their yield. Farmers engaged in the cultivation of vegetables and fruits, in particular, have expressed growing concern.
Meanwhile, tourists arriving from across the country and abroad to enjoy the changing weather were seen thoroughly relishing the rain and cold amidst the scenic valleys of Mussoorie. Tourists were spotted strolling and posing for photographs amidst the rain at popular spots such as Mall Road, Gun Hill, and other tourist attractions. Many visitors described Mussoorie’s weather as “enchanting and memorable”.
The Meteorological Department had previously issued a warning, forecasting the possibility of heavy rainfall and hailstorms in the hilly regions over the next three days. In light of this, the administration had already issued an alert and instructed relevant departments to remain vigilant. The administration has appealed to the public to avoid unnecessary travel during the inclement weather and to exercise caution while in the hilly regions. Indeed, this sudden shift in weather has once again brought the distinct chill of winter back to Mussoorie.
