Ramnagar, 11 Sep: In Uttarakhand action against illegally built mazaars on encroached land continues. The government deployed bulldozers to raze three illegal mazaars erected in Ramnagar’s rural outskirts, today. These structures, reportedly constructed by individuals employed in the fields and orchards of the area, were situated in the villages of Lutarhad, Shivlapur Riunia, and Chorpani. SDM Pramod Kumar shared with the media that prior administrative notices had been served regarding these unauthorised religious constructions.
After receiving the notices, the respective landowners provided written commitments to the administration for their demolition. According to the administration, the demolitions were executed with support from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the police force, in order to ensure trouble free and efficient clearing of the illegal structures. The operation witnessed the presence of Tehsildar Ramnagar, Chowki In-charge Pirumadara, and Revenue Sub-Inspector/Revenue Officers from Chopda, Kania, Sawalde, and Maldhan, alongside other police and the revenue officials.
This action follows a broader campaign by the Uttarakhand government under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who has been vocal in urging the public to voluntarily dismantle religious structures built after encroaching government or private land. The government has also in clear terms warned that the state would take direct action to demolish such structures in case of failure of those who made them to dismantle them themselves. So far, 552 such illegal mazaars have been removed across Uttarakhand. CM Dhami reiterated the state’s resolve, asserting that the practice of occupying land under the pretext of religious structures will not be tolerated in Uttarakhand, signalling a firm stance against illegal encroachments of all kinds.
