DEHRADUN, 30 Nov: The second session of the Crime Literature Festival of India was a heartfelt tribute to the life and legacy of late IPS officer Vijay Raman. The panel featured retired IPS officer Aloke Lal, former CRPF Director General Vijay Kumar, and Veena Vijay Raman, wife of the late officer, with journalist Gargi Rawat as the moderator.
Veena Vijay Raman shared emotional memories of her husband’s dedication and bravery. She recounted an incident where she discovered a threat letter in his pocket, a moment that filled her with fear but also deepened her admiration for his courage. Vijay Raman, celebrated for leading the 14-hour encounter against athlete-turned-dacoit Paan Singh Tomar on October 1, 1981, left behind a legacy of valour and resilience.
Vijay Kumar reminisced about their time together during police training, sharing anecdotes that highlighted their enduring friendship and Vijay Raman’s remarkable character.
The discussion also spotlighted Vijay Raman’s memoir, ‘Did I Really Do All This?’ Aloke Lal praised the late officer’s humility, reading excerpts from the book and a touching letter Vijay Raman had written to his wife.
Veena also shared her family’s excitement when Vijay announced his plan to set a Guinness World Record by driving around the world in just 39 days, a feat that reflected his adventurous spirit and determination.
The session provided a moving portrayal of Vijay Raman’s life, blending professional accomplishments with personal anecdotes that captured the essence of his indomitable spirit.
