DEHRADUN, 3 Mar: Universal Human Rights & Social Development Association – “Strong people stand up for themselves, but stronger people stand up for others” – is a human rights organisation. It is working for the improvement of people’s standard of living and protection of their human rights. Nishant Gautam, Chairman (UHR&SDA) and his team have done a great job by gathering people from deprived sections of society to encourage them to live a healthy life.
It organised a ‘General Health & Awareness Check Up Camp’ in association with Nanhi Dunya & AIIMS.
Nanhi Dunya, “The International Movement of Children & Their Friends’, was founded in 1946 by Prof Lekh Raj Ulfat. Nanhi Dunya has been working for the neediest section of society for seven decades. Nanhi Dunya – Chander Nagar is situated near the inner city slums. People of this area need such organisations. A working mother’s profession can be scavenging, working as a domestic help doing work such as housework, cooking meals, washing clothes and cleaning utensils, etc., rag picking or construction work. A few come under the category of midwife, kitchen assistant and helper in tea stalls. To fulfill the basic needs of economically deprived women and children is the central aim of Nanhi Dunya.
The Guest of Honour on the occasion was Dr Santosh Kumar (Nodal Officer, Outreach Cell, AIIMS). He inaugurated the event with Dr Ravikant (Associate Professor & Head Division of Diabetes and Metabolism, AIIMS) and Kiran Ulfat Goyal (Chief Promoter Nanhi Dunya).
A team of professional doctors from AIIMS Rishikesh examined children and adults from deprived sections of society, free of cost, and also promised to continue the medication for those who fall in the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category. Around 500 people were examined from various backgrounds.
Mayor Sunil Uniyal also visited the camp and felicitated the team of doctors – Dr Julie – General Surgery – SR, Dr Ankita Kaushik – Dermatology – SR, Dr Mamta- Obstetrics & Gynaecology-SR, Dr Raina Kaur- Pediatrics- SR, Dr Prateek Nishant- Ophthalmology-JR, Dr Anurag-Orthopedic-SR, Dr Manira-General Medicine- SR.
The lunch for students was sponsored by Rafik Ukani. Others present at the event were Sobran Singh (retired Dy Director, DRDO), SM Sayeed (Chief Advisor, UHR), BR Mohan, Shivani Rana, Himani Arya, Subhashni, Amit Singh, Martin, and Hemlata.
The event was anchored by Satvika Goyal. She also thanked the doctors for their dedicated and compassionate work. Dr Santosh Kumar met every child individually and expressed his pleasure at the event’s cheerful and healthy atmosphere and the lack of stiff formality, and he pledged to continue his support.
