Yoga is path to a healthier and stronger nation: Subodh Uniyal

Dehradun, 21 Jun: Health Minister Subodh Uniyal led the main Yoga event in Dehradun held at the Multipurpose Hall of the Parade Ground here, today, on the occasion of International Yoga Day.  On this occasion, Uniyal practiced various yoga asanas along with the other participants. Addressing the gathering, the health minister asserted that yoga is India’s ancient heritage and a holistic discipline that brings harmony between the body, mind and soul. He described yoga as the cornerstone of a healthy, disease-free and balanced life and said its relevance has increased significantly in today’s fast-paced and stressful world.

Uniyal said that, owing to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, yoga has gained global recognition and acceptance, with people across the world embracing it as an integral part of their daily lifestyle. He also observed that yoga has emerged as a universal movement for health and wellness, transcending geographical, cultural and linguistic boundaries. He said regular practice of yoga not only improves physical fitness and strengthens the immune system but also helps in relieving mental stress, enhancing concentration and fostering positive energy.

Uniyal said a healthy society is the foundation of a strong nation and that yoga has a vital role to play in realising the vision of a developed India. He added that widespread adoption of yoga can contribute significantly towards reducing the burden of diseases, improving public health outcomes and enhancing the overall quality of life of citizens. He appealed to the people of the state to make yoga an inseparable part of their everyday lives and work collectively towards building a healthier, fitter and more prosperous Uttarakhand and India. The minister further stated that in an era marked by rising lifestyle-related ailments and increasing mental health challenges, yoga offers a simple, natural and effective solution for achieving overall well-being.

Cabinet Ministers Khajan Das and Saurabh Bahuguna, along with other dignitaries, were also present on the occasion.
