Myeru Pahad Foundation felicitates Dhami for UCC

New Delhi, 10 Jul: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was felicitated by the ‘Myeru Pahad Foundation’ at DPMI Auditorium, New Ashok Nagar, New Delhi, today, for bringing in the Uniform Civil Code Law in the state. A large number of intellectuals, public representatives and other dignitaries participated in this civic felicitation programme. Everyone praised the efforts of CM Pushkar Singh Dhami to implement the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand. Describing the blessings of the people of Uttarakhand behind the passing of the Civil Code Bill in the Legislative Assembly, the Chief Minister said that this law will prove to be a milestone in women empowerment. The Chief Minister also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government and the ‘God-like’ people of the state for this achievement.
While paying homage to BR Ambedkar and Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay on the occasion, Dhami stated that it has been the government’s resolve to implement an equal law for everyone in the country. He said that the Uttarakhand government has fulfilled its promise made to the 1.25 crore people of Devbhoomi on the Uniform Civil Code. Before the 2022 assembly elections, the BJP had promised the people of the state to bring a Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand to realise the mantra of Prime Minister Narendra Modis ‘Ek Bharat Aur Shreshtha Bharat’. People voted BJP back to power and the promise was fulfilled. Immediately after the formation of the government, keeping the order of the people in the mind, in the first cabinet meeting itself, the government decided to form an expert committee to make a Uniform Civil Code and on 27 May 2022 constituted a five-member committee under the leadership of retired Supreme Court judge Ranjana Prakash Desai. The Chief Minister said that for this, the committee received about 2.33 lakh suggestions through various mediums after organising 43 Jan Samvad programmes. After studying the suggestions received, the committee analysed them in record time and submitted its detailed report to the government on 2 February 2024 and passed it by the Legislative Assembly on 7 February and was approved by the President on 11 July. He said that a committee has been constituted to make its rules. As soon as the report of the committee is received, it will be implemented in the state by October this year.
Dhami said that the Constitution itself talks about equal law for all citizens, because it is a secular Constitution. This is an ideal concept, which removes the inequalities within the society and makes the social structure stronger. He said that this region of Maa Ganga-Yamuna, this holy land of Lord Badri Vishal, Baba Kedar, Adi Kailash, sages-saints-ascetics, brave martyrs has set an ideal. He said that despite being mentioned in Article 44 of the Constitution, UCC was ignored till now.
The Chief Minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, public welfare works are being done by moving forward on the mantra of Sabka Saath-Sabka Vikas-Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas. Today Uttarakhand is moving ahead in an unprecedented environment of development and trust, fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
Myeru Pahad Foundation President Prof Dayal Singh Panwar, Advocate Satish Tamta, former IAS Officer Kulanand Joshi, Devendra Joshi, etc., also expressed their views. Disaster Management Advisory Council Vice President Vinay Rohila, Prof Lalita Gandhi, Dr Dharma Rawat were among those present on this occasion.
