New Delhi, 25 Jul: Haridwar MP and former Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, during the Monsoon Session of the Lok Sabha, raised four important questions before Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari regarding road infrastructure in Uttarakhand, delays in the Char Dham Project, the Bike Taxi Policy, and road safety measures.

In his written reply, the Union Minister informed that, from 2014-15 to June 2025, a total of 2,969 kms of National Highways have been developed in Uttarakhand. Reasons for delay in the Char Dham Project are pending forest and environmental clearances in courts, delays in land acquisition, natural calamities, local demands, and contractual disputes.

Regarding the Bike Taxi Policy, under the Motor Vehicle Aggregators Guidelines, 2025, state governments are allowed to permit non-transport motorcycles for shared passenger services. No policy-related disputes or complaints have been received by the Centre from Uttarakhand in this regard.

Regarding Road Safety Measures, it was stated that the Centre has adopted the 4E strategy (Education, Engineering, Enforcement, Emergency Care) to ensure road safety. Key initiatives include installation of crash barriers, rumble strips, signage, speed control measures, regular road safety audits, black spot rectification, and analysis of accident data through the IRAD Project to plan improvements.

MP Trivendra Singh Rawat appreciated the Central Government’s efforts to maintain a reliable, safe, and practical road network in a geographically sensitive state like Uttarakhand and sought timely progress in the interest of the state.
