Dehradun, 1 Dec: The tenure of Utpal Kumar Singh has again been extended as Secretary General of Lok Sabha by one year with effect from today. His previous extension expired yesterday (30 November, 2024). A 1986 batch IAS officer of Uttarakhand Cadre, he had retired as Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand before being reappointed as Secretary General of Lok Sabha by Modi Government.
With this extension, Singh will be completing an impressive five-year tenure in the esteemed role by 30 November, 2025. It may be recalled that Singh was appointed to this prestigious position on a contract basis on 30 November, 2020. Initially, his term was for one year, ending on November 30, 2021. However, successive extensions have enabled him to continue in this critical role. This latest extension reflects the recognition of his contributions and the trust placed in his leadership in managing the Lok Sabha Secretariat’s operations.
Singh is among those senior bureaucrats who have enjoyed the trust and confidence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Singh’s tenure as Secretary-General has been distinguished by his effective leadership and dedication, ensuring the smooth functioning of the Lok Sabha while strengthening parliamentary processes. Singh will be second such Secretary after Snehlata Srivastava to be completing five year term as Secretary General of Lok Sabha.
