Welham Boys’ School hosts 35th edition of Golden Jubilee Basketball Tournament

Dehradun, 25 Apr: In 1987, Welham Boys’ School celebrated its 50th anniversary by hosting the inaugural Golden Jubilee Basketball Tournament, marking a significant milestone in the school’s history. The tournament featured eight teams competing in matches organised on a league-cum-knockout basis, totalling 16 matches throughout the event.
The 35th All India Golden Jubilee Basketball Tournament was held from 22 to 25 April. This year, the participating schools were The Doon School (Dehradun), PPS Nabha, La Martiniere for Boys (Kolkata), The Daly College, Indore, Wynberg Allen School (Mussoorie), Pinegrove School (Dharampur), and the Senior and Junior teams from Welham Boys’ School.

The Semi-Final round featured two matches with one team qualifying from each pool. The first match was played between Welham Boys’ School (Blue) and The Daly College, Indore, with Welham Boys’ School emerging victorious and securing a place in the finals. In the second match, Wynberg Allen School defeated La’ Martiniere for Boys, Kolkata, by 14 points, advancing to the finals.

The final match of the tournament was played today between Welham Boys’ School – Blue and Wynberg Allen School. Welham Boys’ School clinched the Golden Jubilee Basketball Trophy defeating Wynberg Allen School by 22 points. Kabir Shobhit Vaish of Welham Boy’ School was adjudged the Most Valuable Player, while Shaurya Mittal of Wynberg Allen was adjudged the Most Promising Player of the Tournament.

The closing ceremony was graced by Suresh Kumar, an International Basketball player who currently serves as the Finance and Accounts Officer at ONGC, Dehradun.
