Gov inaugurates Dehradun International Science & Technology Festival-2024

Dehradun, 20 Nov: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) inaugurated the 5th Dehradun International Science & Technology Festival-2024 at the Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University on Wednesday. The four-day festival will feature more than 30 technical and scientific programmes. Additionally, a science and technology exhibition was held in the university campus, where students from various educational institutions and scientific and technological organisations showcased innovation-based projects.
The Governor visited the exhibition and appreciated the students’ projects, encouraging their enthusiasm.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Governor emphasised, “Science and technology are the need of the hour, and without embracing them, our progress and development are not possible. To achieve growth in every sector, it is crucial to accept and advance with science and technology. In today’s world, it has become a fundamental necessity for every society and nation.” He added that it is essential to adapt to the technological changes that are occurring in the present time.
The Governor stated that a scientific outlook should be developed in students from their school life. “This festival will prove to be a milestone in fostering a scientific approach among students. Competing with developed nations is possible only if we base our progress on science and technology,” he said. He highlighted the importance of emphasising innovation, research, and skill-based education, urging that students should be equipped with a scientific mindset from an early age.
The Governor urged the students to cultivate scientific awareness and innovative thinking, stating, “You all are the brand ambassadors of science and technology. Let the light of science and technology spread from here to the entire nation.” He concluded by affirming that the youth are the true strength of the nation and state, and it is through their efforts that India will achieve its goal of becoming a developed nation and a world leader.
The Governor also requested the organisers to ensure that the festival benefits as many students as possible, aiming to establish the event as a hub for research, development, and innovation.
On this occasion, Minister of Technical Education, Subodh Uniyal extended his best wishes for the success of the festival. The event was attended by Vice-Chancellor of Technical University, Prof Omkar Singh, Director-General of U-COST, Prof Durgesh Pant, Director of Y-SARC, Prof Anita Rawat, Event Secretary Kunwar Raj Asthana, University Registrar Satyendra Singh, along with many scientists, science enthusiasts, directors from various institutions, faculty department heads, and students from schools and colleges.
