Kotdwar, 2 Dec: On the occasion of Uttarakhand’s 25th Statehood Day, Assembly Speaker and local MLA Ritu Khanduri Bhushan felicitated the participants of a “Wall Painting Competition” organised here. Additionally, all the young participants were taken on an exciting jungle safari to Corbett National Park (Pakhro Range) in Kotdwar.
The award ceremony was held at her Camp Office near Jhanda Chowk, where Bhushan honoured the participants and winners of the competition with medals, certificates, cheques, and consolation prizes. She praised the wall paintings created by the children, calling them a remarkable representation of the state’s rich culture and traditions.
She emphasised that the paintings were done on walls along the streets to enhance the beauty of the town and stated that strict action would be taken against anyone found defacing or damaging them.
The first prize was awarded to Anjali Bisht from Har Singhpur, Kotdwar. The second prize went to Prerna Rawat from Simbalchoud, Kotdwar, Sandeep Singh from Satpuli, and Sakshi Negi from Indira Nagar, Kotdwar. The third prize was given to Shikha Gaud from Kalghati and Kamini from Nimbuchoud. In the junior group, Shrishti Chauhan from Gherat Road emerged victorious.
Upon receiving their awards, the participants expressed their gratitude, saying the wall painting competition provided them an excellent platform to showcase their talent. They also found the jungle safari experience exciting. They mentioned that being honoured by the Assembly Speaker boosted their confidence and hoped such events would help Uttarakhand’s art and culture gain wider recognition.
The judges’ panel included Dr Vinod Singh (Head of the Art Department, PG College, Kotdwar), Ganesh Chettri (Delhi Art Museum), Urvashi Agarwal and Abhilasha Bhardwaj.
