Mussoorie, 7 May: A major tragedy was averted late Wednesday night here when a young man suddenly fell 100 metres downhill on the Dhanaulti Road. Upon receiving the information, teams from the Mussoorie Police, Fire Service, and the 108 Ambulance service launched a joint rescue operation, safely extracting the injured youth and transporting him to a hospital. According to reports, on Wednesday night, around 12 a.m., an individual alerted the Mussoorie Police that a person had fallen off the road and into the gorge just beyond Woodstock School on Dhanolti Road. Acting immediately on the tip-off, the Mussoorie Kotwali Police arrived at the scene equipped with disaster management gear. Simultaneously, teams from the Mussoorie Fire Service and the 108 Ambulance service also reached the site. Despite the darkness of the night and the treacherous terrain, police and fire personnel conducted a rescue operation using ropes and other specialised equipment, successfully pulling out the youth who had fallen nearly 100 metres down. The injured youth was identified as Naresh, son of Hukum Singh, a 32-year-old resident of Civil Road (near Rawat Medical Store), Mussoorie. Following the rescue, the youth was immediately transported to the Civil Hospital, Mussoorie, via a 108 ambulance, where doctors administered five stitches to treat a severe head injury. Upon being informed of the incident, the youth’s family members also arrived at the hospital. After receiving primary medical treatment, the youth’s family took him home with them. Police investigations revealed that the youth had lost his balance and fallen into the gorge while relieving himself on the roadside. Local residents have lauded the swift rescue operation conducted by the Police, Fire Service, and the 108 team, crediting their efforts with saving the youth’s life.
