Dehradun, 8 Dec: Uttarakhand witnessed a transformative moment for climate education as Waste Warriors Society, in collaboration with High Environmental & Social Impact India, hosted the state’s First Climate Fresk Workshops on 7 and 8 December at Gandhi Park, here. More than 50 passionate youth gathered for this groundbreaking initiative as part of Project YUWA, which is Waste Warriors’ flagship programme dedicated to empowering young change-makers to lead environmental action.

The workshops, facilitated by Julian Banaszuk, Dimple Asopa, and Monika Sharma, introduced participants to the internationally acclaimed Climate Fresk methodology. Through an engaging three-hour session, participants explored the causes and effects of climate change using 42 scientifically designed cards based on the IPCC report. The workshops not only deepened their understanding of climate science but also encouraged collaborative problem-solving, creativity, and actionable solutions for a sustainable future.

This collaboration marked the debut of Climate Fresk in Uttarakhand, an organisation that has educated over 2 million individuals across 162 countries using its innovative learning model. Waste Warriors’ initiative to bring this impactful programme to Dehradun highlights its commitment to creating opportunities for youth to start their climate journeys and foster a deeper connection to environmental action.

The YUWA movement, which started in 2023, aims to inspire and guide environmentally conscious youth, helping them transform their sensitivity into meaningful action. Through programmes like these, Waste Warriors has enabled youth to take more than 4500 waste and climate actions this year.

In the Fresk workshop, the youth learned about the initiative, Mission LiFE, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under this initiative, participants were encouraged to take a 21-day challenge to adopt a sustainable lifestyle. Students from Doon University, Uttaranchal (PG) College of Bio-Medical Sciences & Hospital, Shree Dev Bhoomi Institute of Technology, and Dehradun Defence Academy also participated in the workshop.

Yuvraj Singh, Project YUWA’s manager, stated, “We will continue to organise such workshops in the future, enabling youth to begin their climate journey and take positive steps toward environmental conservation. The awareness and knowledge gained from this workshop will inspire them to take strong actions in their climate journey.”

This workshop demonstrated that, when youth come together to learn and work towards change, they can have a large-scale positive impact.
