Dehradun, 24 Apr: The four-day XX DM Swing Memorial Hockey Tournament commenced at Oak Grove School, today, in memory of the late DM Swing, who was Physical Training Instructor at the school and passed away while in harness in February 1987. The tournament was inaugurated jointly by Dr Sanjay Dube, Head Master, Oak Grove Boys’ School, Rekha Sangal, Head Mistress, Oak Grove Senior Girls, and Anand Kumar, Head Master, Oak Grove Junior School, Jharipani.
In this tournament, a total of seven teams from Dehradun and Mussoorie are participating. In pool ‘A’ are St George’s College, Mussoorie, Oak Grove School Team –A, The Doon School, Mussoorie Public School and Aryan School.
In pool ‘B’ are Wynberg Allen School, Mussoorie, Welham Boys’ School, Oak Grove School team –B and St Agnes Inter College, Dehradun.
The first match of the tournament was played between Oak Grove School team B and Wynberg Allen School. The match was won by Wynberg Allen, 6-0. The second match was played between Mussoorie Public School and Aryan School. The match was won by Aryan School, 4-0.
Dr Sanjay Dube said that the final match would be played on 28 April. The National Level Railway Referees of the matches were Vijay Kishore, Shrish Bisen, Omprakash, Gaurav Bhardwaj and Rajneesh Pandey. Out of them, Gaurav Bhardwaj has been an International Hockey player from Northern Railway. The match was witnessed by Vinay Kumar, Dr Atul Kumar Saxena, Anuradha Sharma, Anupam Singh, Vipul Rawat, Shadab Alam and Abhishek Rawat.
