DEHRADUN, 19 Jul: The STF Uttarakhand team has seized 233 boxes of illegal English liquor being smuggled from Chandigarh and Haryana. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
According to officials, the liquor was being brought in with the intention of distribution during the upcoming panchayat elections. The STF is continuing its investigation to uncover the full extent of the smuggling network.
Senior Superintendent of Police STF, Navneet Singh Bhullar, said that they got secret information that a large amount of liquor is being smuggled from outside states to influence the elections.
Acting on this input, the STF team, along with Vikasnagar and Sahaspur police, stopped a pickup truck at the Kulhal check-post near Vikasnagar.
During checking, 202 boxes of English liquor were found inside the vehicle. The police arrested two persons , Rohatas from Bhiwani district and Anand from Karnal district, Haryana.
During questioning, the accused told the police that the liquor was to be delivered to Vijaypal, a resident of Fatehpur, Dharmanwala area (under Sahaspur police station). Vijaypal had set up an illegal liquor godown at his home. STF and local police then raided Vijaypal’s house and found 31 more boxes of liquor. Vijaypal was also arrested.
In total, 233 boxes of illegal liquor and a Bolero pickup vehicle have been seized. Two separate cases have been registered at Vikasnagar and Sahaspur police stations.
