Dehradun, 21 Apr: Under a Higher Education Department initiative, 80 selected teachers from government universities and colleges will receive training at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science. These science faculty members will be introduced to the latest scientific research, experimental approaches, and practical teaching methodologies, enabling them to foster greater interest in science among students. The training programme will be conducted from 24 April to 9 May 2026.

An MoU has been signed between the department and Indian Institute of Science under the Chief Minister’s Higher Education Quality Enhancement and Knowledge Enrichment Training Scheme. The objective is to train teachers and promote experimental and research-oriented activities in educational institutions. Under this scheme, science faculty are being trained periodically.

In this phase, 80 science teachers from various government universities and colleges have been selected for training at IISc. The selected group includes 16 teachers of Physics, 19 of Chemistry, 13 of Mathematics, 16 of Botany, and 16 of Zoology. During the programme, participants will receive hands-on training in advanced laboratories and gain exposure to new dimensions in science education. They will also be trained in research-based teaching, innovation, and effective methods to develop scientific thinking among students.

According to Higher Education Secretary Dr Ranjit Sinha, this initiative will significantly improve the quality of science education in higher education institutions across the state. Trained teachers will return to their institutions and deliver modern, engaging, and experimental teaching, thereby enhancing students’ curiosity and interest in science. Instructions have been issued to the Director of Higher Education and registrars of all state universities to ensure participation of the selected teachers.

“Providing specialised training to teachers at premier institutions under higher education is aimed at making education more qualitative, innovative, and future-oriented. The training will enable teachers to benefit a larger number of students with their enhanced knowledge and experience, and will give a new direction to science-based education in the state,” affirmed Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, Higher Education Minister, Uttarakhand.
