Haridwar, 6 May: Haridwar Police have arrested a milk seller named Riyaz for allegedly harassing a minor schoolgirl in the Kankhal area. Riyaz was caught yesterday by the locals while attempting to harass a minor girl and then beaten. A case was later registered against Riyaz, son of Hussain Ali and resident of Gurjar Basti in Padartha, under relevant sections of the law on a complaint from the victim’s mother.
The incident occurred while the girl was on her way to school. Riyaz, who sells milk in the locality, allegedly misbehaved with her despite her resistance, prompting a crowd to gather in protest. Enraged residents first scolded him and then thrashed him when he reportedly acted defiantly. He fled the scene but was later tracked and arrested within hours by a police team formed on the directions of Senior Superintendent of Police Navneet Singh Bhullar.
The mother has stated in her complaint that Riyaz had been harassing her daughter on her school route for the past five to six days, even after objections. Kankhal Station House Officer Devendra Singh Rawat confirmed the FIR and informed that the accused would be produced in court soon. The case is being probed under supervision of City SP Abhay Singh and CO City Shishupal Singh Negi.
