Chamoli, 10 May: Due to unseasonal rains in Uttarakhand, an entire hill on the Niti-Malari National Highway in Chamoli district suddenly cracked. Locals captured this horrifying scene on camera. It is being said that double-laning work is underway on the highway. During this time, a landslide started from the hill and a cloud of smoke spread everywhere. The road was also blocked due to falling debris and stones.

A massive landslide on the Niti-Malari National Highway in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district has completely disrupted the road. It is reported that work is currently underway to double-lane the road. During the cutting of the mountain, a large portion of the mountain suddenly collapsed and fell onto the road. The massive amount of debris and boulders blocked the highway.

Following this incident, more than two dozen villages in the Niti Valley have lost contact with the tehsil headquarters. The road closure has also affected the movement of local residents, the army, and the supply of essential goods. Administration and BRO teams have arrived at the scene and are engaged in clearing the debris, but the constant falling of stones from the hill is hampering relief efforts. Locals say that safety standards are being ignored during the road widening work, leading to frequent landslides. The administration has appealed to the public to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel until alternative arrangements are made.
