Dehradun, 10 May: During his visit to Arunachal Pradesh, orthopaedic surgeon, author, road safety awareness advocate, and president of AIIMS Guwahati, Padma Shri awardee Prof Dr BKS Sanjay, paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Lt Gen KT Parnaik (Retd), at the Lok Bhavan there. On this occasion, Dr Sanjay presented his book ‘Bharat Mein Sadak Durghatnayen’ to the Governor.
During the meeting, a meaningful discussion was held on important subjects including education, healthcare, national security, public awareness, and road safety. Dr Sanjay stated that the Governor’s visionary personality, commitment to national interest, and sensitive approach towards public welfare were truly inspiring.
It is worth noting that, on the occasion of the UN Global Road Safety Week 2026 and during his visit to Arunachal Pradesh, Dr BKS Sanjay delivered a lecture on road safety at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology. He is also scheduled to deliver special lectures on road safety tomorrow at Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences and Arunachal Law Academy as part of ongoing efforts to promote public awareness and responsible road safety practices. He emphasised that road safety is not the responsibility of a single individual, but of every citizen.
He further emphasised that road safety should be made an integral part of the school curriculum, as modern life is increasingly dependent on transportation and vehicles. He noted that by educating children and young people about traffic regulations, civic responsibility, and safe road behaviour from an early age, a significant number of accidents can be prevented and countless lives can be saved.
The programme at North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology was organised by Dr Dibyendu Pal, Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering.
