Saurabh Bahuguna announces expansion of ITI Centres of Excellence

Dehradun, 1 Jun: Skill Development and Employment Minister Saurabh Bahuguna held a departmental meeting at his office here today to review student enrolment and facilities in Industrial Training Institutes across the state. On this occasion, Bahuguna stressed upon the need to increase student numbers in ITIs ahead of the forthcoming recruitment session and for this, he directed the officials to ensure wider publicity of departmental schemes so that students may benefit and acquire skills.

The Minister said that the parents of school and college students should be engaged in dialogue to spread awareness about skill development programmes and encourage them to motivate their children to undergo training at the ITIs. He added that hoardings related to departmental schemes should be installed near educational institutions to inform students about available opportunities.

Bahuguna announced that Centres of Excellence of TVS Company at ITIs in Niranjanpur, Srinagar and Almora will be inaugurated on 16 June. He further stated that short-term courses will also begin from the month of July in 13 Centres of Excellence handed over to Tata Technologies, with machinery and trainers already provided by the company. He said that the number of ITIs operating under the Dual System of Training model, where students undergo six months of training in ITIs and six months in companies, will be increased from 32 to 45.

Bahuguna also declared that 168 new ITI instructors will be appointed in the state to strengthen skill development and employment services. Among those present at the meeting were Director, Skill Development and Employment Department, Sanjay Kumar, Joint Director Manmohan Kudiyal, Deputy Director Shailendra Sharma and other departmental officials.
