Dehradun, 24 Jun: The Dehradun District Congress Committee today held a press conference alleging corruption in the education system, repeated paper leaks, cancellation of examinations, delays in recruitment processes and rising unemployment.
Addressing the media, Mahanagar Congress President Dr Jasvinder Singh Gogi claimed that the youth of the country and the state are facing a deep crisis. He added that the students who prepare for competitive examinations with years of effort are repeatedly subjected to paper leaks, cancellations and delays, leading to stress, insecurity and despair. He said the activities of the cheating mafia and corruption have eroded trust in government jobs and the examination system, pushing hardworking youth into disillusionment.
Gogi referred to the tragic suicide of Dehradun student Riya Kumari Thapa, who had appeared for the NEET examination but, distressed by the paper leak and the uncertainty it created, took the extreme step. Gogi said this was not just a family tragedy but a reflection of an insensitive system that has driven many students across the country to despair and even suicide. He asserted that repeated exam cancellations and leaks have destroyed the credibility of institutions and broken the morale of lakhs of young aspirants.
Congress state spokesperson Dr Pratima Singh alleged that since 2017 the BJP government has failed to conduct a single examination without malpractice. She alleged that the mastermind of paper leaks, Hakam Singh, was released due to weak prosecution, and another paper was leaked soon after. She claimed the government is shielding the real culprits, some of whom are within the ruling establishment. Singh added that since the formation of NTA in 2017, 89 examinations have been compromised, with 49 re‑conducted, severely affecting students’ confidence.
The Congress demanded impartial investigation into paper leaks and recruitment scams, strict action against culprits, dismantling of the cheating mafia, transparent examination processes, timely completion of recruitment and special arrangements for counselling and mental health support for students. Leaders said the party stands firmly with the youth and will continue to fight against any system that plays with their future.
Among those present at the press conference included Congress state general secretary Rajendra Bhandari and SC cell president Madanlal.
