Dehradun, 14 Jul: Ramnagar in Kumaon region is set to get direct rail connectivity with the state capital, Dehradun, from 18 July, fulfilling a long-pending demand of local residents. Announcing the development, Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni today shared that the launch of the direct train service would significantly improve connectivity for people travelling between Ramnagar and Dehradun while also benefiting tourists visiting the Corbett National Park and pilgrims coming to Uttarakhand.
Baluni described the launch of the direct train service as a major gift for the people of the region and expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for according priority to railway projects and services in Uttarakhand. He said the new service would make travel to Dehradun much more convenient for the residents of Ramnagar, popularly known as the Corbett City, particularly for those visiting the state capital for official and personal work. The direct rail link would also provide a seamless travel option for domestic and international tourists heading to the Corbett National Park as well as pilgrims visiting the state.
He said the train would initially operate twice a week on a trial basis. Depending on passenger response and demand, efforts would be made to increase the frequency to four or five days a week in the future.
Sharing the announcement on his social media platforms, Baluni said he was delighted to share the good news that the long-awaited Ramnagar-Dehradun direct rail service would begin from 18 July as a result of sustained efforts made over a long period. He reiterated that the service would prove highly beneficial for local residents as well as tourists and pilgrims travelling to Uttarakhand.
Congratulating the people of the Ramnagar region, Baluni said they were set to receive a double bonanza as the Dhangarhi Bridge had also recently been dedicated for public use, further strengthening connectivity and improving convenience for the people of the area.
Meanwhile in a separate post on his social media, Baluni also shared that the Centre has approved construction of the Laldhang-Chillarkhal Road. The Central Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court has approved the passage of almost every type of vehicle from this forest road. It may also be recalled that, earlier, Kotdwar MLA and Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan had also shared that the construction of this road is set to begin. At present there is a kuchcha road at the site and only certain types of vehicles are allowed to pass through this forest road.
