Mussoorie, 19 Jul: The continuous rainfall in Mussoorie is now making its impact felt. On Sunday, landslides near Galogi Power House and Maggi Point on the main Mussoorie-Dehradun highway caused rocks and debris to spill onto the road, disrupting traffic for a while. However, timely intervention averted a major accident, and the route was quickly reopened for traffic.
News of the landslides caused a stir among locals and motorists. With rocks of various sizes continuously falling from the hillside amidst the rain, travellers had to wait in safe locations for some time. Thousands of vehicles ply this route daily during the tourist season, so the sudden appearance of debris on the road raised concerns among the public.

Upon receiving information, a Public Works Department (PWD) team arrived at the scene with JCB machines and began clearing the rocks and debris. Thanks to the department’s prompt action, the road was cleared and traffic flow was normalised within a short time.
PWD officials stated that, in view of the monsoon, JCB machines and personnel have been pre-deployed in sensitive and landslide-prone areas following instructions from the district administration. Relief and clearing operations are initiated immediately upon receiving reports of landslides at any location to minimise traffic disruption. Continuous rainfall is causing growing concern among residents in Mussoorie and surrounding areas. Mindful of landslides and road damage incidents during previous monsoons, locals remain vigilant. The administration has appealed to travellers and tourists to exercise caution on hill roads during the rain and to avoid unnecessary travel.
