Dehradun, 19 Jul: A delegation under the leadership of Brig KG Behl (Retd), President, Sangyukt Nagrik Sangathan (SNS), met District Magistrate Ashish Chauhan at the Collectorate compound on 18 July regarding various development issues of Doon Valley.
Sushil Tyagi, General Secretary, SNS, and more than 30 members projected various welfare points for the development of Doon City.

Col BM Thapa(Retd), pointed out that major traffic jams all over the city are very common nowadays. There is no proper parking for the vehicles and scooters presently due to overcrowding of vehicles, which causes a lot of inconvenience to the public. People park vehicles on footpaths resulting in inconvenience to the public and senior citizens who are unable to utilise footpaths.
He suggested that elevated roads and flyovers for all traffic coming from Delhi and Haridwar for Mussoorie should be planned accordingly to avoid traffic jams. He also suggested that there is a population explosion in Doon valley as people are coming from the hills and plains. Mass construction is going on in Doon valley resulting in a concrete city. Greenery of Doon valley is disappearing.

Sushil Tyagi suggested that a committee should be constituted under the DM as Dehradun City Development Coordination Committee, with a nodal officer.

Others suggested that, to control pollution, more use of electric vehicles and scooters should be encouraged. Proper multi-storey parking should be provided for the vehicles to overcome the traffic jams. There are chances of water pollution due to high chlorination which is very harmful for the health and should be controlled. Lots of adulteration is there in making paneer and other condiments like turmeric or Curuma Linga, mustard oil, etc., which should be checked.

Young girls and boys studying in colleges are becoming drug addicted and create public nuisance. They also cause accidents, which should be avoided. A lot of garbage has piled up and construction done under the flyovers. This should be prevented.

Super senior citizens should be respected, as the PM also says, “Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas”.There is a lot of adulteration in sweets with shopkeepers using corn syrup in place of sugar or jaggery which should be controlled.
