Mussoorie, 23 Jul: A major tragedy was averted on Thursday afternoon here. A young man was critically injured after suddenly falling into a deep gorge near Zero Point, a famous tourist spot. Upon receiving the information, a fire service team rushed to the scene and successfully rescued the youth by descending into the gorge using ropes, despite challenging conditions.
According to reports, a person arrived at the Mussoorie Fire Station around 2:25 p.m. on Thursday to report that someone had fallen from the main road into a deep gorge in the Zero Point area. Acting immediately, a team led by FSSO Dheeraj Singh Tadiyal departed for the site. Upon arrival, they found the injured youth lying in the gorge, unable to climb out on his own. The rescue operation was difficult due to the depth of the gorge and the rugged terrain. Using specialised rope rescue techniques, fire personnel descended to reach the injured man and brought him out safely. Following the rescue, he was immediately sent to the hospital for treatment via the 108 ambulance service. Local police were also present at the scene and assisted with the relief efforts.
The injured man has been identified as Kundan Lal, son of Hari Sharan, a resident of Tehri Garhwal (currently residing near Pooja Restaurant in the Kempty Fall area). The rescue team included driver Pradeep Kumar and firemen Rohit Rawat, Nitin Singh, and Sandeep Saini. The injured man’s life was saved thanks to the fire department’s prompt action and the team’s presence of mind. Locals praised the fire service’s swift response, noting that the situation could have been far worse had the rescue not been carried out in time.
