Congress honours Commonwealth Games medallist Unnati Sharma in Doon

Dehradun, 6 Aug: The Uttarakhand Congress today felicitated international Judo player Unnati Sharma, who has recently won a bronze medal in the women’s 63 kg judo event at the Commonwealth Games 2026, bringing pride to the nation and the state.

At her residence in Defence Colony here, today, Congress spokesperson Abhinav Thapar and other party leaders honoured her with a shawl and a memento, extending warm congratulations on her historic achievement.

On this occasion, Abhinav Thapar observed that Unnati Sharma’s success is a matter of immense pride for Uttarakhand and the country. He noted that despite limited resources she has reached this milestone through hard work, discipline and determination, making her an inspiration for the youth, especially daughters of the state. He emphasised that it is the responsibility of both the government and the society to provide athletes with better training, modern facilities and encouragement at every level, and stressed that continuous efforts must be made to ensure Uttarakhand’s talent gets proper opportunities.

On the occasion, Abhinav Thapar along with Indian Youth Congress national secretary Bhupinder Negi and other Congress leaders wished Unnati Sharma a bright future and expressed confidence that she would continue to win medals for India in forthcoming international competitions, further enhancing the glory of Uttarakhand and the nation.
