Govt to set up medical college in Tehri with THDC

Dehradun, 28 Aug: Following discussions held between Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who holds the Power portfolio, Urban Development Minister Prem Chand Aggarwal and the THDC officials in Tehri, the initiative is being taken to establish a medical college cum hospital in Tehri. In this regard, THDC CMD RK Vishnoi had written a letter to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami proposing to take up the initial work to establish a medical college cum hospital in Tehri.

Vishnoi on behalf of THDC had committed that the initial work on establishing the medical college cum hospital including the construction of the college and hospital building in Tehri would be undertaken by THDC. He had also stated that after the construction is completed, the facilities will be handed over to Uttarakhand Government for its management and operation.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the Secretary, Health, to take necessary immediate in this regard.

The THDC management believes that establishing a medical college cum hospital in Tehri will improve access to healthcare in the area and minimise the necessity for patients to travel far to get treatment. It would also provide opportunities for local students to get medical and paramedical education. In addition, this will also generate employment and self-employment opportunities for local people.
