Journalist Harbachan Singh is no more

Mussoorie, 26 Sep: Editor of Seemant Prahari, Harbachan Singh, a strong pillar of journalism in Uttarakhand, passed away on Thursday afternoon in Haridwar. Hearing the news of his death, a wave of mourning spread in Mussoorie along with the journalist community.

His son, Dr Jaspreet Singh, said that the last rites would be performed in Haridwar. Journalist Harbachan Singh was ill for a long time. He died at the age of 81. These days he was living with his family and son in Haridwar.

He leaves behind son Dr Jaspreet Singh and wife Ravinder Kaur. Journalists of Mussoorie expressed deep condolences on his death. Eminent people and social organisations of Mussoorie expressed condolences.

Apart from journalism, he did remarkable work in social service. He was associated with Rotary Mussoorie and Tilak Memorial Library and Landour Shri Guru Singh Sabha for a long time. Tilak Library President Alok Mehrotra, Secretary Rakesh Agarwal, etc., have expressed grief over his demise.

Sardar Harbachan Singh was connected to every village of the hills through Seemant Prahari. At a time when daily newspapers were not popular, Seemant Prahari used to work as a true sentinel of the society on burning issues of the people in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal, Haryana and Punjab. He was honoured for journalism by various states including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
