NCC mountaineering expedition flagged-in at Raj Bhawan

Dehradun, 28 Sept: Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) concluded  NCC’s ‘Mount Abhimanyu’ mountaineering expedition with a flag-in ceremony at Raj Bhawan on Saturday. This expedition, held from September 3 to September 28, 2024, aimed to select and train cadets for the proposed International Mount Everest expedition in 2025. A total of 34 NCC cadets from across the country were selected for this expedition, including 12 from Uttarakhand, who successfully reached the summit of Mount Abhimanyu in Chamoli.

During the event, the Governor commended the cadets for overcoming significant challenges during the expedition, highlighting that mountaineering tests not just physical strength but also mental resilience and courage. He expressed confidence in their capabilities for the upcoming climb of Mount Everest, the world’s highest and most challenging peak.

Lt Gen Singh stated that the NCC is an exceptional organization inspired by the ethos of “Nation First,” which not only instills discipline but also plays a vital role in nation-building. He emphasized that the NCC goes beyond parades and uniforms, fostering a sense of pride and commitment to India among the youth.

Major General Atul Rawat, Additional Director General of NCC Uttarakhand, also addressed the cadets, congratulating them and wishing them success for future endeavors. Colonel Amit Bisht, the team leader of the expedition, provided insights into the expedition and the challenges faced. He noted the impressive performance of Uttarakhand’s cadets in the rigorous physical tests conducted among cadets from various NCC directorates.

The event was attended by IMA Commandant Lt Gen Sandeep Jain, Brigadier Nitish Bisht, NCC Directorate officials, and NCC cadets.
