Dehradun, 26 Nov: In a significant development, the State Drug Analysis Laboratory in Dehradun has been granted the National Testing and Calibration Laboratory Accreditation Board (NABL) Certification.
Secretary and Food Safety and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr R Rajesh Kumar shared that, after receiving this certificate, the medicines and cosmetics tested in this lab will gain global recognition. He mentioned that more than three thousand samples have been tested so far in this laboratory, which was started under the guidelines of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Dr Dhan Singh Rawat. The laboratory also has the facility for online certification. It was built at a cost of Rs 7 crore with the cooperation of the Central Government.
The Food Safety and Drug Administration has established a state-of-the-art testing lab in Dehradun, which has an installed capacity to test more than two thousand samples. The lab is equipped to test drugs, cosmetics, and medical devices. According to Additional Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration Tajbar Singh Jaggi, until now the validity of the drug testing certificate issued by this lab was at the national level, but now, after receiving the NABL certificate, the certificate issued by the lab will be valid globally. He said that this lab in Dehradun will now be recognised globally as a lab equipped with state-of-the-art machines.
Jaggi stated that this lab, built at a cost of about Rs 7 crores with the support of the Government of India, tests pharmaceutical and injectable medical devices, along with cosmetics. The laboratory includes chemical testing, manner, measure, cosmetic, and microbiology labs. It is worth noting that, before receiving the NABL certificate, the lab underwent an audit process where it was evaluated on various standards and criteria such as laboratory infrastructure, equipment, personnel qualification and intelligence, quality management system, and efficiency testing by the evaluation team. The Rudrapur lab had already received the NABL certificate. Now, pharmaceutical companies will not have to go elsewhere for testing the medicines being exported from Uttarakhand.
