DEHRADUN, 1 Dec: The Crime Literature Festival witnessed an engaging session featuring senior IPS officers Navniet Sekera and Arun Kumar, moderated by Aaj Tak anchor Shams Tahir Khan. The discussion delved into complex facets of law enforcement, offering the audience a rare glimpse into the challenges and nuances of policing in India.
IPS Arun Kumar shared insights into the controversial subject of extrajudicial killings, exploring the ethical dilemmas faced by officers. “Sometimes, the line between right and wrong blurs in the pursuit of justice. These decisions often emerge from complex ground realities,” he said, highlighting the grey areas of law enforcement that go unnoticed in mainstream narratives.
IPS Navniet Sekera, known for his role in combating organized crime, spoke about the formation of the Special Task Force (STF) and the motivation behind its inception. He traced its evolution and discussed how it has revolutionized tackling high-profile criminal cases.
Sekera further reflected on how advancements in technology have reshaped evidence collection and the laws governing it. “The dynamics of investigation have undergone significant changes over the years. However, certain areas still need reform to adapt to modern challenges,” he observed.
The panel also addressed the inefficiencies of fast-track courts, initially designed to expedite justice. “While the intent was noble, these courts often struggle due to lack of resources and coordination,” the panelists noted, stressing the need for systemic improvements to ensure timely and fair justice.
The session was a blend of riveting anecdotes, critical insights, and thought-provoking discussions, leaving the audience with a deeper understanding of the complexities of the criminal justice system.
